The Supreme Court of India has given the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) an extension until June 15, 2024, to vacate its headquarters located on Rouse Avenue in New Delhi. This decision comes after the court determined that the land was originally allotted for the expansion of the Delhi High Court's judicial infrastructure. The bench, led by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, stated that AAP has no legal right to remain on the property and must vacate it to facilitate the judiciary's needs (India Today) (Hindustan Times) (mint).
The court also instructed AAP to approach the Land and Development Office (L&DO) for the allocation of a new plot for its offices, emphasizing that this process should be completed within four weeks. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing AAP, argued that as a recognized national party, AAP deserves suitable office space, similar to other national parties (Hindustan Times) (mint).
AAP's spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar, expressed respect for the Supreme Court's order and urged that no negative politics be played by the ruling party during the allocation of a new office space (India Today) (mint).
