The Calcutta High Court has strongly condemned the fatal clashes between two groups of worshippers outside a mosque in Howrah, West Bengal. The violent confrontation resulted in injuries and the death of several individuals. The incident occurred during prayer time, and while the exact cause of the conflict remains unclear, tensions between the groups led to the eruption of violence.
In its response, the High Court asserted that humanity should always take precedence over religious differences. The court emphasized that such incidents not only undermine communal harmony but also jeopardize the peaceful coexistence of people in the region. The bench, led by Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, expressed deep concern over the violence, which it deemed detrimental to the fabric of society.
The court instructed the West Bengal Police to take immediate and stringent action to restore law and order. It called for proactive measures to prevent the escalation of communal tensions, urging the police to ensure that such clashes do not recur in the future. The High Court also stressed the need for vigilant policing to maintain peace and security for all citizens, irrespective of their religious affiliations.
