Film producer Sheela Kurian has approached the Kerala High Court seeking redress for alleged misconduct by Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Babu. In her petition, she contends that while attempting to lodge a complaint regarding recovery of a money loaned, she was subjected to improper behaviour and treated with disrespect by the Deputy SP. The case was placed before Justice G. Girish, who issued a notice to Madhu Babu and directed that instructions be taken from the state authorities in response to the petition.
According to the petition, Sheela lent Rs. 15 lakhs to a person named Noushad in 2021. Despite repeated demands, he failed to repay the amount. In February 2025, Sheela alleges that Noushad’s wife abused her over a phone call. The following day, she filed a complaint with the District Police Chief of Alappuzha. Later, on 19 February 2025, she visited the Deputy SP’s office at around 6 p.m. to follow up on the complaint. She claims that Madhu Babu verbally abused her and behaved rudely. She states that following the incident she submitted a formal complaint to the District Police Chief, but no action has been taken. She also made representations to senior police officials including the Home Secretary and the State Police Chief, but asserts that these too went unanswered.
In her prayer, Sheela seeks a direction that respondents report the steps taken so far in relation to her grievances. She asks the court to consider her representations and take appropriate measures. The case has been listed for further hearing, and the court has reserved its next date on which it will examine the responses filed by state respondents and the Deputy SP.
