The Gujarat High Court has issued notice to Mahesh Langa in response to a petition from the State seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail that had been granted to him by a trial court in a cheating‑FIR. The challenge was directed against a November 2024 order, passed by the trial court, which had extended bail to Langa after finding the underlying dispute to be “primarily civil in nature.”
According to the FIR, the complainant — a businessman operating under the name Khushi Advertisement Ideas Pvt. Ltd. — alleged that he had transferred ₹28.68 lakh to Langa’s company over time, based on assurances from Langa. The complainant claimed that when he demanded repayment, Langa threatened to use his media influence to tarnish his reputation. The FIR, registered on October 29, 2024 under the relevant provisions of the criminal law for cheating and criminal breach of trust, described the period of alleged misconduct as between March and October 2024. The trial court, in granting anticipatory bail, observed that the nature of the dispute — repayment of money — was essentially civil, and took note of the complainant’s delay in lodging the complaint.
On the State’s plea, the High Court accepted the petition and “issued notice” to Langa — thereby formally admitting the challenge and ordering that Langa be heard on why the anticipatory bail should not be cancelled. The court’s brief order simply stated “Admit, issue notice.” The case has been listed as State of Gujarat vs. Maheshbhai Prabhudan Langa.
With the High Court now scrutinizing whether the earlier bail was properly granted, the matter will proceed to hearing under the judicial oversight of the High Court.
