The Woodland (Aero Club) Pvt Ltd — better known for its footwear and apparel — is facing serious procedural scrutiny in its trademark-infringement case against Speedways Tyre Treads. The Delhi High Court has ordered the personal appearance of Woodland’s Managing Director Harkirat Singh and Senior Manager Madan Kalra, requiring them to file affidavits explaining why certain key correspondence with Speedways was not disclosed in Woodland’s suit.
The bench issuing this summons is that of Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora. The context: Speedways challenged Woodland’s plaint under Order VII, Rule 11 of the Code of Civil Procedure, seeking its rejection and also asked for vacation of an ex-parte interim injunction that the Court had granted earlier on October 30. Speedways argued that Woodland had concealed critical facts — including purchase orders allegedly placed by Woodland up to 2023 — and maintained that the goods seized under the Court’s orders were not counterfeit. Rather, those goods were legitimate stock manufactured pursuant to Woodland’s own orders and were ready for delivery once outstanding dues were cleared. Speedways supported this claim with email exchanges involving Woodland’s management.
Responding to this challenge, the Court noted the prima facie merit in Speedways’ material. Accordingly, it directed Woodland to deposit ₹30-lakh — the assessed value of the seized stock — pending resolution of the suit. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for December 23, 2025.
Thus, what began as a trademark infringement suit by Woodland has now moved into a deeper inquiry, with the Court demanding explanations from the top management regarding the concealment of potentially critical documents and ordering financial security for the seized goods.
