Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench Launches GHCKB Mobile App to Facilitate Citizen-Friendly Access to Court Services

The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati High Court has launched an official mobile application known as the GHCKB App, marking the first time a High Court in India’s Northeast has introduced a dedicated app for court services. The app was inaugurated by the Chief Justice, along with judges and senior court officials, in a formal ceremony. The Bench emphasised that the application was developed entirely in-house and is designed to enhance accessibility, transparency, and convenience for litigants, lawyers, and the general public.

According to the Court, the GHCKB App offers a range of user-friendly features aimed at simplifying access to court information from remote locations. Users can view daily cause lists, check real-time case status, access court orders and notices, and obtain livestream links for ongoing proceedings. The app also provides display-board information, links to High Court and district court websites, and a notice board. To ensure wider reach across different sections of society, the application has been built to be backward-compatible so that even those using older or basic mobile devices can use it without difficulty.

Court officials noted that a primary motivation behind the launch was to address practical difficulties faced by litigants and lawyers in retrieving orders, judgements, cause lists or live-streaming links — tasks which were often cumbersome, especially for people unfamiliar with online court portals. The Registrar of the Kohima Bench described the app as a bridge between the Bench, the Bar and litigants, intended to make essential judicial information readily available in a unified platform. The app is currently available on the Google Play Store, with an iOS version expected to be released subsequently.

In his address at the launch, the Chief Justice reiterated that making court services accessible and transparent is part of the judiciary’s commitment to citizen-centric justice delivery. He urged members of the legal fraternity — particularly younger lawyers — as well as litigants and the public at large to adopt and make full use of the new platform. The Bench indicated that the GHCKB App is a foundational step toward digital justice accessibility, and highlighted that it will continue to evolve based on feedback from users, making it a “living platform.”

The launch of the GHCKB App is thus a significant step toward modernising the judicial process at the Kohima Bench, particularly for those living in remote or underserved areas. By integrating real-time updates, livestreaming, and easy access to cause lists and orders, the Court aims to reduce procedural barriers and promote transparency.
